Project PACSA (Paint And Create Study Area)

I attended a volunteering event with my siblings and cousin. It was organised by my friend, Raine with the help of a Teck Ghee Community Centre and many other sponsors, the name of the event was Project PACSA (Paint And Create Study Area). It was my first time doing such volunteering work other than being instructor in children camp(Camp Mumbo). The event’s objective was to help create conducive home study environment for children from low income families, living in one or two-room flats.

I was kind of shock by the number of volunteer who came, over 150 volunteers has been gathered with the help of Facebook is unbelievable. There were 20 households some requires cleaning and some requires painting so we were split into cleaning group and painting group. I was in painting group, and we are in charge of a Malay Household with 5 kids living in a two-room flat.

The area that required painting was the living room and the kids’ bedroom. We started at 11am with cleaning and shifting of furniture first. When that is done, we start with the painting. Since this was my first time painting house, I just follow those who have experience in painting and did what they did. We were done with the first coat of paint around 2 plus, we had lunch while we wait for the paint to dry before beginning second coating of paint.

We were done with the painting by around 4 or 5pm and start cleaning out. Then move in the new study table for the kids that was sponsor by Defu Furniture. By 6pm we were all done and left the house.

After that we went to another household that required more help, a troublesome one, the owner like to keep things so as a result the house is full of things. When I reach there they are still slotting and packing the stuff at the void deck(literally occupied the whole void deck), from what I heard most of the stuff have been clear away already. The rest  who were in the unit were cleaning, packing and painting the living room.

Due to my sensitive skin, I didn't help up with the slotting and cleaning of the clothes the owner kept. I just help to pack the books into the bag and cleaning of the CD/DVDs. Then move the wines back to the unit(lots of super old wine). One of the wine was kind shocking to all of us there, snake wine. Seriously there was a snake biting on a small green snake in the bottle! By around 8 or 9pm we left and went to my Grandpa house bath and had late dinner.

This event was by far a meaningful and enjoyable experience to me, I get to learn new things like how I should paint the wall up and down instead of left to right etc. I also get to make lots of new friend from different ages, some are working adult while some are JC student or University Graduates. That about all for this post. :D

P.S: didn't get to take picture as my phone was out off battery before I even reach the unit, forgotten to charge my phone.
